Article Name : Spine- tingling fun with spinosaurus
Written By : Claudia Puig
Raptors and T-rexes are so 20th century, say the makers of Jurassic Park III.
The third installment- due in theatres this summer- will introduce moviegoers to an even more frightening screen behemoth- a spinosaurus.
At 44 feet long, from head to tail, and weighing in at 26,000 pounds, he's bigger than a T-rex and probably a more vicious predator. (Watch for a battle between the two rampaging reptiles.)
"We're all the supporting cast to the spinosaurus", says Alessandro Nivola (Mansfield Park), a paleontologist who pairs up with a colleague, Sam Neill, who's reprising his role as a Jurassic expert. "I run through the jungle a lot and use every means possible to escape the clutches of the monster".
Movie puppeteer Stan Winston created the mechanical beast, whose moves are diected by Joe Johnston (October Sky, Jumanji). A denizen of Isla Sorna- a fictitious Central American island (actually shot in the rain forests of Kaui, Hawaii)- the spinosaurus crushes a plane on a search- and -rescue mission with a few strokes.
William H. Macy and Tea Leoni co-star as the parents of the 12-year-old-boy (trevor Morgan) stranded on the island after a parasailing accident. The big-budget action movie is a departure for Macy.
"This is the biggest movie I've ever done, and I had trepidation doing the third of a franchise", he says. But then he saw some footage and was "astounded. It's going to be relentless. You're going to have to step outside to catch your breath".
Leoni, who has a fear of heights, had to be suspended from a plane about 18 feet off the ground. But she focused on the perks of the job. "I'm surrounded by a bunch of boys", Leoni says. "I'm having the most fun I've ever had".
Fun or not, she has issued an official disclaimer: "If this does not do well, it will be the dinosaur's fault. They can't pin this one on me".

Repeat Business was an article discussing info on many sequel films in the works. What follows is an extract from that article which relates to JP3.
If that weren't enough, Spielberg fans sent into a frenzy over the upcoming Indy adventure might need to be hospitalised when they hear the following news : Before Spielberg tackles the intrepid archeologist, he plans to oversee another trip to Jurassic Park : Universal Pictures officially announced that the studio has begun development of a third Jurassic Park film. This time, though, Spielberg has only signed on as the movie's producer, Michael Crichton will return to develop the story for this third dino outing.
Little else is known about Universal's gameplan. Apparently, Jeff Goldblum, the star of the first two films, has no obligation to appear in a third installment and reportedly hasn't indicated whether or not he'll return to the Ian Malcolm role. Currently there aren't any directors attached to the project, either, but the movie could still be ready as early as the summer of 2000.
"We have an opportunity to build on the experience and excitement that audiences have come to expect from us", Spielberg says. "[Michael Crichton and I] have had great success together and look forward to continuing our association." They probably also look forward to their paydays : The first two Jurassic Park films have generated more than $1.5 billion in combined worldwide box-office revenue.
